A USDA multi-state research project led by Alec Gerry, cooperative extension specialist and professor of entomology at UC Riverside, recently received the 2016 Experiment Station Section Award for Excellence in Multistate Research.

The $15,000 award recognizes one project each year for scientific quality, a high level of collaboration, and professional leadership shown in conducting the project.
The “Fly Management in Animal Agriculture Systems and Impacts on Animal Health and Food Safety” project that Gerry directed from 2013 to 2016 project dealt with the threat flies pose to livestock and poultry. Project researchers, including Alec Gerry, developed new chemical, biological, and microbial control methods for managing flies.
