Here is a list of all scholarships that students may apply for AFTER their arrival at UCR:
Harry H. Shorey Endowed Scholarship - Dr. Harry H. Shorey was a Professor of Entomology at UCR whose expertise included pheromone studies in entomology. Selection criteria are prioritized in the following order: pheromone-related research is given the highest priority, an applicant with the greatest financial need, overcoming dyslexia, and then meritorious academic record.
Francis A. and Jane Davies Gunther Endowed Scholarship Fund - Dr. Francis Gunther was a Distinguished Professor of Entomology at UCR whose research focused on the development of novel chemical insecticides for the control of insect pests. A preference is given to students pursuing research on pesticide chemistry in entomology with demonstrated financial need.
Lauren D. and Mildred D. Anderson Endowed Graduate Assistantship in Immature Insects - Dr. Lauren D. Anderson was a member of the original faculty in Entomology at UCR who retired 1976. Professor and Mrs. Anderson established this endowment as a permanent reminder of the importance of continuing research on immature insects. An annual stipend may be awarded to a graduate student doing research in the area of immature insects (e.g., systematics, morphology, life history). A multi-year award to a particular student is permitted.
Ian and Helen Moore Endowment Fund for Marine and Aquatic Entomology - Ian Moore was a Staff Research Associate in the Department of Entomology at UCR. Eligible students include those whose research will focus on furthering the knowledge of arthropods (except Crustacea) wholly or partially associated with the marine environment or of aquatic entomology with a preference for studies focusing on the freshwater-marine interface. Studies may have a broad scope within the suitable habitat types, including the biology, ecology or systematics of representative arthropods.
Harry Scott Smith Scholarship Fund - Harry S. Smith was a Professor in the Department of Entomology at UCR. The phrase “Biological Control” was first used by Smith in August, 1919. The scholarship helps support graduate students training in biological control. Ph.D. student must have passed their qualifying exams. Funds may be used to cover costs to attend conferences, training workshops, and to provide supplies for the research project.
Carl Strom/Western Exterminator Company Scholarship in Urban Entomology - This scholarship was established by the Western Exterminator Company, which is a family-owned Structural Pest Control Company founded in 1921 by Carl Strom. Candidates are required to submit a one-page proposal of their research interests and its relevance to the structural pest control industry.
CNAS College Scholarships you can apply for after you arrive at UCR:
James and Margaret Lesley Annual Prize (up to $500 per award) - For completed research projects in biological or agricultural science. Applicants must be under 30 years of age.
James and Adeline Wallace Prize (up to $3,000 per award) - For completed research projects related to citrus or other plant pathology problems. Applicants must be under 30 years of age. Students in their final quarter at UCR are also eligible.
Janet M. Boyce Memorial Scholarship (up to $1,000 per award) - This scholarship supports women students majoring in the sciences.
Herbert Kraft Scholarship Fund (up to $2,000 per award) - Must be a California High School Graduate. Scholarships support students working on an agriculturally related project.
Homer and Daisy Chapman Scholarship in Citrus/Soil & Plant Nutrition Research(up to $1,000 per award) - This scholarship is to assist undergraduate and graduate students wishing to pursue studies in citrus research as well as soil and plant nutrition, with preference given to students working on citrus.
